While China had their superior ‘hard-paste’ or true porcelain, Europeans experimented and came up with a substitute. In France, at the Rouen and St Cloud potteries, porcelain production was invented though a great period of trial & error, resulting in a ‘soft-paste’ or artificial porcelain.
